R to @hjalli: This is really powerful and intuitive tool for building charts. Well done Grid team!

This feature went live in @GRID_hq last week. Makes it super easy to build charts from tabular data in your spreadsheets. Feedback welcomed: https://www.loom.com/share/9415bc52a7e0468792bbd1987fbc8193

R to @redbeardbanker: We made the questionable decision last year to try to solve recurring tasks in Notion. @yomartholomew has dealt with this exact issue for so many hours at this point, I think he has become an actual time wizard

R to @TomFrankly: I think that is exactly what happened, I live in mountain time zone and the created date was after 8 PM that day

R to @GRID_hq: Heads up - it might be an API timezone issue, depending on what y’all are using to calculate the dates. Certain dates/times in the API will only be UTC, so if you live in say Denver and make a page at 8pm, the API will read it as created at 2am the next day because UTC

R to @redbeardbanker: That sounds most odd. Let's dig into it. Can you DM screenshots or other details that might be of help (such as your userid and name of the database+table)?

R to @TomFrankly: Ya, I did add some habit properties and it has been working just fine, but you're right, it does clutter all of the other notes, such as book notes, that I don't need the habits in. However, I don't want to have to go to multiple places to track things, that was the whole idea of why I liked the UB. Do you know of a way to edit a property by clicking something in a normal to-do block? Is that a possibility?

R to @TomFrankly: Hey @GRID_hq I have been playing around with your graphs and I think I have it figured out, yet I do see an error. I have been using the database properties on a daily journal page to track my habits, but when I go to your graph and sort the x axis by date created, it is combining 2 dates, 10/4 and 10/5, even though I have confirmed on both your site and notion that they were created on separate days, and it is causing an error in my graph.

R to @redbeardbanker: In UB, there isn’t really a habit tracker per-se. It has a daily journal feature, but the habits are just normal to-do blocks. To use a chart tool, you’d need to add habit properties to the Notes database and check off those. Or you might just want to create a separate Habits database, so your Notes db isn’t cluttered up by a bunch of habit properties!

R to @TomFrankly: So I’m trying to get it to work, but I can’t seem to get the data from the daily habits link in my daily notes to populate, I’ve selected the all notes database, but it has each daily note as a point of data. Where are the habits kept?

R to @TomFrankly: Thank you all! Looking into it now to see if it is fairly easy to set up

TomFrankly
2023-10-06

R to @GRID_hq: That may have been the case – IIRC I had to actually go to the GRID site to refresh the data, or hit a button. I can't remember, as I tested a ton of charting tools and none hit the mark at the time. @redbeardbanker GRID might be the pick then!

R to @GRID_hq: To be fair, I think we hadn't implemented this "smart polling" when you took a look at GRID early on in our Notion journey.

GRID_hq
2023-10-06

R to @TomFrankly: Thanks for the mention @TomFrankly . Re frequency of polling, GRID actually fetches the latest data as anyone views a chart based on the data (e.g. embedded back into a Notion page), so the data you see in a GRID chart should never be stale.

R to @TomFrankly: @GRID_hq would probably be a safe bet as far as staying power goes. But I've also found that most of these tools do not do frequent API polling, so your chart doesn't update very quickly. This is something I'd like to solve, but unfortunately it's just not as important as a large number of other things we need to do, so I can't spare much time right now to power through the many issues involved

R to @hjalli: Seeing a video like this - made by a user - is such a great reminder to me and the team here at @GRID_hq of how mature our product has become, and what empowers spreadsheet modelers to do in a really short amount of time.

One of @GRID_hq's super-users, Kyle, just posted this fantastic intro / tutorial video on how to turn a model from traditional spreadsheet software (such as @googlesheets or @msexcel) into to a published web tool, in just a few minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OD1-HepXo4E
