I’m taking the time to write this-because I don’t every want to ever forget this: 5 years ago Jeter and I decided that we didn’t want to be weighed down by our monthly payments anymore so we started the long journey of digging out of the big deep dark hole of debt we were in. We had student loans, a car payment, some credit card and medical debt. A year after we got married we learned about being debt free and not always having monthly payments. So we slowly started. We sat down and made a monthly budget. We made some sacrifices in our day to day lives. We were blessed by my parents who agreed for us to live with them so we could continue on our journey and we will always be thankful to them. We had a lot of set backs. And we made several wrong choices. But we still continued each month. When we had our first child I became a stay at home mom so we were living and paying off debt with just one income. About 5 years ago we became super serious about paying off debt and we put our heads down and set forth on our journey to being debt free…but you guessed it. We made mistakes again. We bought a house, had another kid, bought another car, had some medical issues, and so on. But we still continued to pay more of our debt off each month. It would have been easy to just say “hey, let’s just live life - we will always have these bills anyways” but that’s not what we wanted. We wanted to have the financial freedom. Complete control of our money. Caleb got a promotion. Which made it possible for us to pay off even more of our debt faster. We sold a bunch of unused stuff-even a car and a motorcycle. Now 5 years later here we are we are officially DEBT FREE (other than our mortgage!) From here on out we will be saving before we buy. We will still be sticking to our monthly budget and now we get to save for the things we want. Like a nice family vacation!
