The idea for this collage, inspired by the client, was to celebrate a 10th anniversary with a reference to the first date she and her husband shared. Both she and he had attended MIT and she was interested in including some of the more iconic architecture on the school in the piece. I worked on finding text that would add an additional layer of meaning to the memory. Please zoom in to view. One of my favorite challenges, as a collage artist, is reflections. The windows were created by laying down a very dark green. Elements that were reflected were next added, followed by the layers of paper to create the structure of the windows. I’ve included a few close-ups, including one of my favorite parts— the little girl eating the triple ice cream cone. The last image in the series shows one of many photographs that I took and ultimately decided on for the collage. When I consider what makes an interesting collage, I am often looking for an interesting perspective and a view that can encompass many desired elements. I hope you enjoy this piece.
