This post is hard for me to write. I live two lives. And it’s often hard to share the “other” life here with everyone. It’s NOT of POPULAR OPINION ❌. It’s not a SEXY standard ❌. And it always converts with less #engagement ❌. Swipe 👉🏼 for some AWAKENING images from our trip this week to MALAWI 🇲🇼 LET'S SEE who ACTUALLY reads this.... 👀 One of my jobs is REALLY SEXY ✨ … celebrities ,#thoughtleaders, industry leaders, big stages… The other job …. NOT SO SEXY ‼️ …⛏️ formalizing #artisanalmining… (“oh, that’s interesting” some people might say, others don’t even engage on the topic with me). #Malawi is one of the world’s poorest countries but often considered “THE WARM HEART OF #AFRICA” 🤎 We were on the ground meeting with #governmentagencies, #NGOs, health clinics and… women, CHILDREN and men who are working as artisanal miners making less than $1 / day. There is a really sad reality in the world - THE BLOOD OF AFRICA powers our lives. ➡️ With #idealism on rise because of #socialmedia and the constant drive toward what is being defined as #SUCCESS… the fancy cars, the jets, the Rolex watch, the diamonds… ➡️ With the arrival of the #EV era (fantastic news for our #planet and for our societies except more #criticalmetals will be required for the fulfillment of this future of #netzero)… THERE IS A DISTURBING DARK SIDE 🔘 Metals are becoming the new #oil.. 🔘 ..and, in Africa, so many these metals are coming from artisanal and small scale miners (ASM). The conditions are horrible: ❌ #humanrights issues ❌ exploitation to sex and human #trafficking particularly amongst women and children ❌ child labor ❌ unsafe #environmental practices ❌ Potentially fatal working condition ❌ Lack of accessibility to clinics All for an unguaranteed dollar a day. So we went to Malawi to engage with miners, communities, listen, gather data and assess opportunities so that we can find practical ways to improve the #qualityoflife of the miners and communities.
