If you follow someone then you’re not following the truth. We often give blind authority to people who seem trustworthy. In balance, this can be very helpful, we need to trust to some degree our electrician, our doctor, our math teacher... But when it comes to important matters, especially matters that shape our perception of the world, we should not accept things without a deep understanding. If you give absolute authority to a religion, a school of thought or a person, then you are walking someone else’s path and hoping it will lead you to your own truth. The spiritual path begins only when you vow to peruse the truth and only the truth, For that you need to question everything. When you recognise that any belief that you accept without having reached that truth directly is actually standing in your way of realising It for yourself. You can follow what feels truest to you in the present moment but you need to keep questioning the beliefs that you have just adopted. And that requires enormous presence and energy, Like a snake shedding skin after skin, the pain can be excruciating as you continuously question your beliefs and teachers, find better ones, feel understood and reassured and then question It all again… The journey towards personal truth may be difficult, but the freedom and empowerment gained from living life on one’s own terms are invaluable.
