How can you make sure baby has access to liquid gold?✨ ⤵️ • • • By harvesting your colostrum through hand expression! 🤏🏽🤏🏻🤏🏿🤏🏼🤏🏾 Colostrum is the earliest milk we make, beginning around half way through your pregnancy until a few days after your baby is born. Compared to mature milk, colostrum is thicker, stickier and more concentrated, often with a yellowish tint, which is how it gets its nickname 🍯 Many people are surprised to learn that you can actually hand express and store colostrum while you are still pregnant (like this mom), beginning around 37 weeks and onwards. You can collect colostrum (using the techniques shown above) in a spoon, or directly into a syringe or silicone collector tube, and then freeze it (for up to 6 months) to have on hand for when you are newly postpartum. The colostrum you store can be given to your baby in the first few days after birth if the baby needs extra hydration, blood sugar regulation, or supplementation for any other reason! Colostrum helps to colonize your baby’s gut with healthy bacteria and has critical immunological properties!
