Project Name: Galactic Starcruiser (aka Star Wars Hotel) Location: Orlando FL Project Type: Themed Hotel Opened: 2022 Closed: 2023 Cost to Build: $400 million Average Cost for 2 Night Experience: $6000 (family of 4)   Several years ago, Disney announced the construction of a Star Wars themed hotel. Fans around the world waited with excitement for their chance to get the immersive experience that Disney promised. When the world shut down in 2020 construction was delayed and fans were forced to wait a little bit longer than they had initially anticipated, but in 2022, the project was finally complete. Initially, rooms in the hotel were in high demand.   For an average cost of around $6000 for a family of four, guests were given a 2 night experience complete with themed dining and entertainment activities. Actors and actresses played Star Wars characters throughout the hotel, providing a truly one of a kind experience.   After the initial wave of diehard Star Wars fans had a chance to attend the hotel, demand began to slow down. Although the hotel generally received positive reviews, the price point was simply too high for many people. Even some of the diehard fans who loved the experience, have said that it was more of a “bucket list experience” rather than something they would go back to repeatedly.   With bookings slowing down, Disney’s special tax status in Florida being revoked combined with a high operating cost, leadership decided to close the hotel. It is scheduled to remain open this summer with an estimated closing date of September 30. It is unclear what will happen to the building following its closure.
