Sweet Canteen is truly a #hiddengem #melbournebakery tucked away in the side entry of The Strand/Emporium. (Enter via Little Bourke St, facing H&M side entry) Easy to overlook as there’s no front window display, but step inside and you’ll be greeted with a selection of unique and scrumptious cakes at the counter. Their Strawberry Cake strays from the norm compared to petite ones you find in Asian bakeries, it is unusually large and oh-so-creamy! 🤩 I confess to having the Strawberry Cake often as my “lunch” during on&off #melbournelockdown (yes I made a lot of food memories during this time) The ball-y looking cake is the St Honore Sarah. The cream, flakey pastry and candied dripping create such wonderful melody of textures. Both cakes were just the perfect amount of sweetness and well-balanced. Also well priced for the serving size!
