Greece is an amazing travel destination not only because it has incredible beaches, but also because of the VARIETY of water and beaches it actually has. The sparkling, clear, light blue waters and golden sand of much of the Aegean, for example, is vastly different from the very deep sea of the Ionian, a mix of shockingly turquoise and dark blue waters set against white cliff backdrops. Greece has 227 inhabited islands and over 2,000 uninhabited ones. This is a private island called Atokos, off the coast of Ithaca (yes, the home of Odysseus, that Ithaca, not the home of Cornell University), and it is technically inhabited as the owner has a house there. However, visitors can still approach by boat and make their way to the beach, relaxing on the coast there for the day. You’re just supposed to keep the island clean, leave it as you found it, and not venture into the island’s interior. Respect these rules and rent a boat for the day to take you there with friends!
