Ever lamented your partner’s “useless nipples”? This post is for you! 🙃 There are tons of important jobs your partner can do so that you can focus on feeding your baby …but one of our favorites is being your baby’s “coach”! For most of our patients, we recommend a series of whole body exercises because feeding is a 🗣WHOLE 🗣BODY🗣PROCESS! And your partner can be in charge of cheering your baby on while doing them! 📣👏🏽🎉 Activities such tummy time, “happy baby” rolls, and opposite limb “stretches” can help strengthen your baby’s core/midline, thereby improving tongue function for feeding. These neuromuscular exercises help your baby connect their body to their brain in really important ways! 🧠👅 With all of these exercises (especially tummy time) we recommend aiming for 40-60 minutes per day, in short increments. Like bodyfeeding, frequency is more important than duration! So between feedings, or after a diaper change or a nap, have your partner work on these critical exercises with baby while you take a rest!
