Throughout my drumming life, the question has been asked many times, "which is the hardest time signature to play"? The answer will baffle you, I promise: "Every time signature is the hardest to play (correctly)". No one time signature is more difficult than the other. Try making 4/4 swing and really sound amazing, it's as difficult as anything else! Now, which is the time signature I enjoy most? 3/4, 6/8 or 12/8, definitely. 3 just flows and instead of adding to your 4/4, you are actually subtracting a beat! How's that for a sense of space? 3 can be so sensitive, yet so powerful! Try it out, subtract one instead of adding a billion and I assure you, you'll meet a great challenge.
