Empathy for all of our unfixable parts and wholes. .. Repost from January: “I started this drawing 6 months ago when my hands/arms stopped working. I worked on it in small chunks of minutes as I was able. I used to stay up all night and churn out a poster lol. It’s been so humbling reimagining my life w/o what I most loved to do, what I thought was my purpose. @patty_berne and I have talked a lot about how disability hones our ability to grieve and move through change. We are like grief athletes. Oppression is disabling and I’d say we can also choose to use our experiences of oppression, pain and trauma to grieve and heal as deeply as we need to. I come from folks who survived genocide and committed to nihilism. That path is inscribed in me, but I’m trying trying to turn the ship, to make change and healing in my lineage, to imagine every loss and change as an opportunity for creativity and deep growth. I’m so grateful to my hands for all the deep pleasure of drawing, sculpting, cooking, planting, sex and queerness they’ve given me.
