How would you feel if you could stand strongly in front of tsunamis, cosmic bodies, and mountainous fires? To feel nature’s overwhelming power, to consider for a moment our place in this vast universe, but how do you perceive this experience? Do you succumb to its intensity or do you feel a sense of freedom and calm? This line between our perceptions of nature and the phenomena around us has been an obsession of mine since I was very young. I seek to quantify and understand these phenomena and how they’re perceived, then use what I have learnt to pursue a profound human experience through the arts. The incredible thing about the arts is its ability to allow me to balance and be precise with the dichotomy of nature. To create beauty through controlled chaos, to use technology to bypass stringent reality and its physics, all while creating beautiful moments where someone can feel both the positive and negative emotions that come with the honesty of nature. My fluid models should feel both chaotic and controlled, while also being aesthetically pleasing; my color palettes should be balanced with tinges of conflict and undesirability, and my music compositions should be calming with subversive dissonances. This philosophy I have leads me to constantly consider how to use the language of man to communicate, which I find to be the most rewarding. I don’t intend to muddy the waters, overwhelm the mind with “technical complexity,” or believe that I am anywhere close to that desired goal. I look forward to, as the years continue, getting closer and closer to understanding the human experience and creating artwork that captures a moment purely between the viewer and nature, where I am merely the match that sets the moment ablaze. 🖤🌊🔥🪐 #art #jessewoolston #arte #digitalart #installation
