Many of you know about the chaos last year with the renovations with how my contractor quit and took my money. I had so many sleepless nights and took out multiple line of credits. But all that is behind us now. I decided to make a post about how I got through it. I was persistent in paying down my debt. I didn’t invest or save for a year, even though the market was down and it was a good opportunity. I tried to avoid making rash decisions. When my contractor told me he’s quitting, I asked if I can get the money back. He said he already used it, and trust me, I was not okay. The $20k was our original quote for everything except kitchen (I bought my own materials) and the house looked like a wreck. Only the demo, some minor baseboard repairs and half of one bathroom had been done and that should’ve been only $5k in labour cost. I decided I was going to take time to process it and reply the next day or at least a couple hours later. I also leaned on my dad a lot for advice and emotional support. He's been through something similar before, so he has the experience to lead me down a better path.
