This photo shows two Dutch prisoners of war of an unknown W@ffen-$$ unit, presumably belonging to $$-Panzergrenadier-Regiment Germania of the 5th $$-Panzer-Division Wiking (due to the early tarp in plane tree No. 1/2 camouflage), as they are eating out of their messtins. Note their emblems bearing NS-symbols have been strapped off (e.g. arm bands, collar tabs), a phenomenon that was more than common within the captivity. Harskamp POW camp, Harskamp, Gelderland, Netherlands, June 1945. The Harskamp POW camp was first used by the Canadians and later by the Dutch for the internment of approximately 4.000 Dutch POWs that collaborated with N@zi Germany, mostly being members of the W@ffen-$$ divisions „Landstorm Nederland“ (earlier „Landwacht“) and „Wiking“. Also other collaborators such as members of the Holländische Grüne Polizei and other units were interned here. All of the Prisoners were waiting for trial. Generally, the incredibly large number of persons affected did not allow a quick processing of the trials, which meant a constant overload of the camps with far too high numbers of internees, which resulted in a massive chaos, often combined with abuses in the camps. The POWs were held captive, often without being charged, without contact to a lawyer, and sometimes even without being interrogated and informed of the charges.
