Improve your urban leash walking ⬇️ 1. Practice consistent leash handling techniques. Leash handling (length of leash, how you communicate direction to the dog) is the most important foundation skill to start with. 2. Shrink your dog’s leash walking zone. It takes time for a dog to generalize skills, start with a small loose leash walking radius and increase it as your dog understands the rules. 3. Reinforce them for “getting it right.” Use something they like and reinforce in position. Most importantly, use smells and other dogs in the environment as reinforcers! 4. Don’t allow pulling to “work.” Stop or circle the dog when you feel pressure and only allow forward motion when the leash is loose. Upcoming class: Urban Leash Walking starts Tue, Aug 15th at 7PM.
