"I could paint a picture of something that might have happened, or a story that I heard, a ghost story or something like that... That's what I wanted to do. I knew right away I wanted to tell stories." Mike Ousley Mike Ousley's paintings depict the stories and folklore that characterized his childhood in Appalachia. His recent paintings have moved out of the hollers of his youth to the ocean, depicting scenes of shipwrecks, sirens tempting sailors, and the threat of shark fins circling below a shadowy figure perched at the edge of a cliff.
