“Here Are Gifts, Presents In Life Form” - colored pencil and graphite on paper. Here’s one drawing that I started, if I am not mistaken, in December 2019, but unfortunately I didn’t have enough time to finish it before. As a kid, a lot of people told me that I have morbid drawings, and during the years I lost my own navigation to feel it. There’re rare moments when I see it with the eyes of a stranger and feel it again. But as a creator, you cannot always see yourself the same as other people see you. Simply because it’s you. This is probably my best homage to Jan van Eyck, maybe some of you will not really get what I want to say, but this drawing is hugely inspired by some figures from his paintings. The subject is of course a part of my narrative and so is the title of this drawing. English bulldog is a portrait of a real dog Taki, who is part of our family. There’re elements, such as plants, inspired by some regional folk art from, and also some details from the basement of the building in which I grew up. Some details are results of longer process of things and trying to keep an open narrative inside the drawing. Some details are probably working well with winter holidays, and I like that part a lot.
