Here’s a tough one. 😬 What happens when you’ve been on the same page since you met 14 years ago which is why you’ve successfully made it this far, but you see your futures in different places? Ooof. That one hits hard. James and I have been so wonderfully in the same lane. What we value in life, in friends, how we love to socialise. How we parent our girls, what we find funny. What we want to spend money on. What risks we’re prepared to take. What commitments we want to keep. It’s been pretty plain sailing. Until now. Thinking ‘one day’ or ‘when we retire’ is a dangerous game. I think we all know why. But my husband is very much in that camp. Even exploring options is a hard NO. And that feels like a punch in the stomach. I respect it and I understand the reasons why but it’s really alien to suddenly find ourselves not on the same page, not even in the same library regarding our future dreams!! As a female hurtling towards 40, coming out of the baby days, feeling mixed emotions about career versus contentment, what I really want from life is playing heavily on my mind. What I do know is that I don’t envisage living out my days in the city of Bristol, with a backdrop of drizzly urban greyness. I love Bristol, I really LOVE the community and the crew we have here. It feels like we are surrounded by support and friendship. I know this is worth millions and perhaps people wins over places? But as I get older I’ve realised that the things that bring me deep joy are FOC. The sea, open space, greenery, THE SUN, warmth on my skin and in my muscles. Light, blue skies, vitamin D. A slower pace. I pine over these things. I daydream over these things. I scroll Right Move, and Easy Jet and travel accounts on the gram. It’s safe to say I’m obsessed. There’s no conclusion - to this post or the massive question of future plans. And that’s okay.. for now. Anyone else know this feeling?
