As Hip Hop would have it, I got sick today and was forced to rest 🥹 All of the grand gestures I wanted to make and videos I wanted to create in celebration of 50 years took a backseat to my rest & recuperation. But, isn’t that a testament to what Hip Hop has been to me? A refuge and a reminder that I’m enough. Period. I’ve put in WORK in my 20 years as a practitioner, and today Hip Hop gently reiterated that I deserve rest. So thank you, Hip Hop. You know who I am and what I need, even when I don’t. You’ve taken me to unimaginable places, affirmed me in the deepest ways, and helped me meet some of the most beautiful geniuses across the globe - who all love you just as deeply as I do. In 2023 ALONE, on your 50th birthday year, you took me to your hometown in the Bronx, Lollapalooza, Rutgers University, NPR, and on a 30 concert school tour. You named me Best Individual Hip Hop Artist, you graced me to be a @next_level_usa site manager and Hip Hop Cultural Ambassador again, and in October you’re giving me the platform I’ve dreamed of - a @tedxchicago performance 🥹 I love you, deep.
