My son Josiah Orion had his esèntáyé today. Esèntáyé means “to touch your feet to the earth” in Yoruba and it’s a naming ceremony for babies in Ifâ where a priest divines and receives insights as to how to best support the child’s destiny. Thank you to my godfather and the Ojubona of OIDSI @fabolasi for your guidance today and all days. Thank you to my godmother @diosaasabi for your practical wisdom and unrelenting passion. Thank you to @oluwajewel for your prayers today and for the immense kindness you extend to all those who enter your house. Thank you to @powerqueen for seeing Josiah so clearly and for your invaluable advice. Thank you to my godsisters - @sashaanniyah and @yasmeenenahora - for being in the room today and holding us down with your divine energy, (and also for capturing these sacred moments). Thank you to Josiah’s godmother @haleyrosegrey for bearing witness to Josiah’s journey. And lastly, thank you to @humanlauren for being the most incredible mother to our son. My heart is so full.
