This perspective has been on my mind lately… It doesn’t have to be perfect to be wonderful. Last month, I had a heart-to-heart with my mom that reminded me to embrace the beauty of imperfect situations. We spoke about how my curling career has influenced our family, and my mom shared the perspective that because of my curling schedule, she has a stronger relationship with Skyla and Bella. It was a moment that struck me. When I moved away from Winnipeg 10 years ago, I promised to make time to come home to visit family often. And while my curling commitments occasionally take me away, this conversation reminded me that curling unites us in a unique way. We spoke about how fortunate we are for curling because, despite the distance, I manage to be with family at least a few times per year. It's not about creating the perfect circumstance; it's about being present in one another's lives whenever possible. This perspective holds true on the ice too. Each time I step onto the ice, I'm reminded that perfection isn't the goal. Not every shot will go as planned and not every game will unfold seamlessly (that would take the thrill away if you ask me). It's the resilience, camaraderie with teammates, and love of the game that make this sport so great.
