I’ve seen a meme floating around recently of a post regarding a Tesla/EV car show, in which the OP claims something to the effect of Tesla owners being more passionate and loyal than owners of any other auto brand. Well, I covered that very #TeslaTakeover and @holleyhighvoltage (HHV) show by the @teslaownerssv group a cpl weeks ago in San Luis Obispo and wanted to offer some first-hand POV. First, superlatives are probably not the best idea when evaluating the passions of enthusiasts in an emerging segment against those with diehard loyalty, dedication and knowledge reaching back generations. Second, there was some definite dedication to be felt among loyalists of Tesla and the various other makes present. But mostly what I felt was intrigue and interest. I liken it to what I experienced in the late 90s’ and early 00s’ import shows: young, novice enthusiasts interested in learning and unlocking the potential of a new thing. In that vane of thinking, the HHV portion of festivities was legit by any enthusiasts’ standards. The only three EV-converted vehicles I saw were in the AEM booth, and the performance driving that took place at nearby Santa Margarita Airport was definitely educational and entertaining.
