The message that frequents my dms the most is a request to see our homeschool room in more depth. It’s been a long time since I’ve done a full tour, mostly due to time, but also because there’s this unusual weight I feel that because I show my room it somehow places guilt on others that do not use or have one. And I don’t want to hold that. We happen to have an awkward front room that sat empty for years before we had children, and transforming it into a calming space for them over the years has brought a lot of joy. Here’s some tips to keeping a tidy, organized space. I do clean up the area with my children daily and do seasonal purges and rotating of books, too. + Containers and bins hold like items to keep them from getting lost. It also provides my children a proper place to put things back. + Items we use most often are left at eye level, such as our Bible basket, colored pencils, and the children’s workbooks. + Curriculum is separated by child in their own basket, housed on the bookshelf. + Parent Manuals and my planner, pens, highlighters are kept together, too. + Fun items like generic art supplies, musical instruments, and playdough are housed in their own basket, stored in a cube shelf adjacent to our school table. + Books are grouped together by subject: math, history, bible, nature study/science, read alouds, and seasonal reads. + Items that could pose as a choking hazard are kept up high in hard to open containers. + Each child has their own mini container of supplies holding a glue stick, their own scissors, eraser, etc. + Themed loose parts and play pieces are kept in zipper pouches in the baskets below our shelf. Sensory kits are kept in plastic bins in another area of our home. + Unit Studies are kept in a4 magazine containers to protect the pages longterm. These are items we come to at a certain point in the year, but will use longterm. Is there anything you’d like to see closer up? Need something organized but aren’t sure how? I’m kind of a Monica and thrive in this area.
