I made this record over 2 years ago. I fought like hell to release it with the integrity that I knew it deserved. A lot of people said “no,” and most didn’t want a body of work they couldn’t label and put in a neat little box. It took a damn long time and all the fight I had in me to get here. Most folks don’t realize how well I can take a punch. Or how many times I can get back up. Or how hard I can hit. Being underestimated has been my fuel. It has been my whole life. I’m grateful to the people who saw my vision and helped me realize it, especially because I didn’t set out to tell a pretty story. Life is complicated and ugly and so painfully, stunningly beautiful. That was the record I set out to make. Regardless of its reception, I could not be prouder. Head high. I told the truth in every note and I am not sorry.
