Planted in July, Blooming in August 🪷 How many flowers do you see in the first slide ? 2 ya 3 ? I have been asked by many of you to share my entire process from A to Z about LOTUS/Water LILY, so here you go - ➡️ You need to have tubers or plants to start with. I purchased all of mine from @himadri_aquatics_gardens For a beginner, would recommend to NOT grow a lotus from seeds ! It’s a game of patience and I am sure you’ll loose hope in between. And if you’re buying Water Lily plants from a local nursery, please ask for a mature plant (not a tiny baby) so that it starts blooming soon. ➡️ Pick an ideal size pot (bigger the better). I have mine in terracotta and concrete but you can use old plastic tubs as well (without holes). For reference, I have different sizes with width ranging in (37-54 inches) and height (27-34 inches). ➡️ Start with a layer of vermicompost at the bottom (thin layer). Next a layer of clayey soil (चिकनीं मिट्टी), if you can get soil from a nearby pond, that’d be best. Add a handful of neem khali in each pot. All these should fill about 25% of your pot size. ➡️ For lotus, I used a tuber. You’ve to add thoda water in beginning to make the soil wet. Make a small cut in soil in a corner, place your tuber with leaves pointed upwards, adjust it properly with some more soil and fill the pot with water. Same process for a water Lily plant. ➡️ Purpose of adding that white stone while filling water is just to let the water enter slowly without dirtying the entire pot. Helps to keep the soil settled. Add just sufficient water to submerge your plant at that stage, do not completely fill the pot. ➡️ You can add pond plants (like water lettuce, mosaic etc) to make your pots look pretty. Add guppy fish 🐠 to prevent mosquito breeding and keep the pots clean. ➡️ Ensure good amount of sunlight (4-5 hrs), terrace is ideally recommended.
