Trains of Matheran Hill Railways !! The Matheran Hill Railways is a 2ft Narrow Gauge Heritage Railways in Maharashtra under the jurisdiction of Central Railways, The Neral Mathern Railways is 21km long Railway line which connects the town of Neral & Mathern Hill station in Maharashtra, This Railways route was constructed between 1901 & 1907 by Sir Adamjee Peerboy, He was the first Indian Sherrif of Bombay and was a regular visitor of Mathern Hill station, to make his journey to the hills comfortable he decided to built a railway line with a total cost of ₹16,00,000/- & was the sole owner of the then Mathern Railways, Currently this railway route is controlled and managed by Central Railways, Trains generally run up & down the hill several times a day serving the localites & tourists providing an enchanting view of the forest, hills & the Scenery enroute but the speed is restricted to 10-12kmph as there are many sharp bends and turn which might cause derialments, The train generally don't operate in the monsoon between July & October due to the risk of landslides, only a limited section between Aman Lodge and Matheran is open to public, This Rail Route is also 1 of 5 operating Narrow Gauge Route in India and also a mountain Railways which makes it unique and one of a kind, Matheran Hill Railways is also proposed as UNESCO world Heritage Site.
