Playing the teacher in @sanaztss 's play ENGLISH feels like something I've been training for all my life. I spent most of my childhood at the #iranlanguageinstitute as my mom taught there and I studied there from when I was about 6 till I was 16. I'm playing some version of my mother! An ode to mom, if you may. Thank you Sanaz for the hundredth time for writing this beautiful play. It feels right to get to see this world through her eyes: personal struggles, professional ones, all while trying to show your students how to find their way through this other side of them: their English version. As for my journey with this play, under @shadiismyname 's laser focused direction, alongside old friends and new ones; it's been nothing short of revelatory. I won't say "come and see me be great" or anything like. However I will ask: IF YOU ARE IN ATLANTA, YOU SHOULD SEE THIS BEAUTIFUL PLAY. The gorgeous, authentic costuming by the brilliant @afsaneh_aayani , the gorgeous music and atmospheric sound by the amazing @bahar_royaee_music , the incredible set by the fabulous @sadra__t and the cinematic lighting by the lovely @benrawsondesign and the incredible ensemble of amazing actors is NOT TO BE MISSED. As for me, yes, I'd love to invite you to our class. Because #representationmatters always. As an artist who's #Iranian and #queer , I know how much this opportunity means to people who've never belonged and you all know how hard won this has been.
