I waited 5 years to do Sarrail Ridge because I was beyond intimidated of this hike. I finally worked up the courage and forced myself to do it and wow was it harder than I imagined! I work a desk job 45 hrs/week and consider Johnston Canyon a hike, so I was definitely punching above my weight class on this one. But I didn’t want to keep making excuses for myself. The hike started off looking pretty promising. You could see clear blue skies and cloud definition, so we decided to continue on. I was huffing and puffing and my legs were on fire. I could only take 20 steps at a time and had to stop to catch my breath. As we inched our way closer to the top, the winds shifted and it became dramatically smokier. I began feeling lightheaded and dizzy but continued. We finally made it to the top only to see the views completely engulfed in a cloud of smoke 😭 It was disappointing but what can you do. Going down I literally slid my way down on my ass because I fell about 9 times landing pretty hard on my back where I was carrying my camera gear. I was embarrassed passing people by like this 😂 Especially much older people who seemed to be doing this hike with ease! Anyways, will I try this again? Maybe. Either in another 5 years once I get over my PTSD. Or maybe in 5 weeks! Who knows.
