#tb 1941 & today: Looking west up Sterling Pl at Franklin Ave in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. . Much remains the same in this part of Brooklyn with respect to the buildings. The most significant change, apart from the presence of a new building seen on the upper right of the present-day image, appears to be the absence of two sets of trolley tracks and overhead wires running up Sterling Place. Trolley service along Sterling Place began in 1877 with the opening of the BMT’s St. Johns Place Line which operated between Brownsville and Downtown Brooklyn. Like most other trolley lines in the borough, the St. Johns Place Line was shut down following World War II, specifically in 1947. Today, the B45 bus runs along the route of the old trolley. . Also, note how Sterling Place originally supported two-way traffic as opposed to its present one-way configuration. I am unsure as to when this change took place so if anyone knows please feel free to let me know in the comments below! . Lastly, note the towers seen in the background of both photos up Sterling Place.
