How do you feel about the tactics here? The debate: Plenty of applause and “attaboys” for the Georgia State Trooper who single-handedly rammed the F-150, and swiftly hopped onto the hood of his unit to pull the suspect out with one hand and quickly place him in cuffs. He’s being celebrated as a hero by many. (Side note, a great display of physical fitness) And then there’s the other opinions. That the trooper rushed an apprehension, and although his tactics were successful, they weren’t safe or optimal. The idea that he should have slowed it down, waited for backup, perhaps holding the suspect at gunpoint behind the cover of his own unit. My thoughts: Context is important. Certainly in many cases, rushing the suspect vehicle to attempt an apprehension on our own, would be unnecessary risk. This trooper witnessed the suspect vehicle hitting pedestrians as it fled. Whether that action by the suspect was intentional is irrelevant, what the trooper witnessed was an extreme danger to the public. I tend to equate it to an active shooter. What do we do with active shooters? We don’t wait for backup, we move in. In our 20/20 hindsight, could this apprehension have been slowed down, done safer? Maybe. But we are in an age where Law Enforcement officers are too often afraid to act. Pressure from higher rank, media scrutiny, new laws and policies that discourage a swift use of force. Yet we know that this trend has also led to harm, because often times a swift use of force is exactly what’s needed to reduce harm. Personally, I applaud the trooper. It reminded me that police work is still alive. Showing the public that their tax dollars are well spent. Showing the public that swift aggression is a skill we need officers to have. Would you want this trooper as your backup? As a citizen, would you be glad we have cops like this who are effective and courageous? Hell yes. #fitness #fitnessmotivation #fitnessjourney #thinblueline #police #lawenforcement #cop #cops #bluelivesmatter #policefitness #deputy #tactical #fatloss #weightloss #weightlossjourney #dispatch #ems #fire #firefighter #firefighters #backtheblue
