Nestled in Long Island City's vibrant manufacturing district is a treasure trove of artistry and history – Sculpture House Casting, a renowned modeling, mold making, and casting manufacturer. Michael Perrotta, the Operations Manager, provided insights to Made in NYC about the family-owned business and its journey amidst the evolving landscape of New York City's manufacturing scene. The roots of @sculpturehousecasting trace back to 1918 when a Hungarian immigrant named Alex Ettl founded the company. Generations later, Michael's father and uncle, also immigrants, took the reins in the 1980s. "I grew up in this business and began working here during college and ended up staying," Michael reminisced, recalling fond memories of meeting diverse and talented artists, sculptors, and craftsmen who converged at Sculpture House Casting, creating a unique and stimulating environment. Over time, the city's manufacturing landscape transformed. Sculpture House Casting had to make a shift in 2014 when Manhattan's escalating costs compelled a move to Long Island City. Despite having to move, there was no place else that Michael wanted to be. “I was born and raised here,” Michael says. “Talent is here. Hard working. Immigrants are here. People who want to learn are here. Designers are here. Galleries are here. It’s the best city in the world.” Sculpture House Casting stands as a testament to the enduring tradition of craftsmanship in the digital age. As the city evolves, the company remains committed to preserving its artisanal legacy, ensuring that handcrafted work remains an integral part of New York City's artistic heart.
