My little one asked if we could make something in the shop last night. I asked her what she wanted to make and she said a snake! Not sure why she wanted to make a snake I said let’s go out and figure something out. I knew we needed to be able to build something fast but I wanted it to be fun. So I pulled out a scroll saw pattern book my Nanan and Grandad use to use when they’d make my cousins and me toys. She thumbed through it and I suggested the dinosaur puzzle I saw in it. And off we went. I pulled a scrap piece of cedar I had that had some rad figure in it. We traced the pattern onto transfer paper then using spray adhesive we stuck it on the board. She’s used the scroll saw before so after a few test cuts she scrolled it out while I helped hold it down. After I clamped a palm router down and turned the speed low so I could help her round off the edges. Using the 3x5 sander she was able to smooth out the pieces. We went with some danish oil to finish it off. It’s a a cute simple piece and it was nice to have her come out to the shop and build it together.
