#tb 1925 & today: Looking north on Broadway toward Riverside Dr in Inwood, Manhattan. . Back in the mid 1920’s northerly Inwood was still developing into the urban neighborhood that it is today with many empty lots still scattered about. The construction and opening of large apartment buildings in Inwood gradually accelerated in the lead-up to the opening of the underground IND Eighth Avenue’s Dyckman Street and 207th Street stations in 1932. Note the small white sign on the far left side of the 1925 photo advertising the corner lots for sale. The lots were developed and filled with an apartment building by 1928. . Also, note the small Socony gas station in the old photo located at a prime intersection. I have no idea when it disappeared.
