Swaying like a dormouse in the breeze 🌝🍄 Our friend @nate_moss went looking for butterflies in England and found a dormouse instead!! There are 29 different dormouse species across Europe, Africa, and Asia, and the species native to England is the Hazel Dormouse. Dormice are known for their love of sleep—as nocturnal omnivores, they sleep most of the day and eat flowers, berries, fruits, and sometimes bugs at night. They also hibernate for six or more months out of the year! This explains why the dormouse in Alice in Wonderland is always nodding off. Their love of snoozing is also thought to be where they got their name; while dormice are rodents, they are technically not mice. “Dormouse” is thought to have derived from the word “dormeuse”, meaning “sleeper” in French ❤️🦨🎉🌝 @nate_moss shares beautiful photos and videos of animals in the English countryside!! Please give him a follow to see them all and also check out @kentwildlife and @kentveganevents!! #dormouse #love #conservation #england #bramble #hedgerow #berries #environment #biodiversity #govegan #englandcountryside #mice #opossum #rodents
