FINALLY, A BEDROOM WE LOVE! Our bedroom, like so many others, has always been boring, uninteresting and basically an afterthought. Not anymore!!! The theme of our bedroom was tranquility, a place were no business/work-talk is allowed! A place Brooke could relax. We went with a dark and moody color, which complements the feature wall: floor to ceiling white oak panels with a thin shaker style design beside a molded (from a real rock in Oklahoma) rock panel. The wood panel part covers 2/3rds of the wall and was used to hide the door to our primary bathroom. This hidden door has a unique hinge — nothing like we’ve ever used before. The lateral opening movement makes it so fun to use! The texture and dimension of the rock panel really brings the outside in, mixed with the beautiful white oak panels, our own little escape is complete. This is now our “slow” room. Brooke’s tip: if you’re doing pendant lights over the nightstands, make sure they can be controlled individually. Also, dimmer switches are very helpful! Brice likes to read and I want to go to sleep, so having independent lights allows my side to be dark while he stays up doing whatever he’s doing 🤪 Brice’s tip: utilize the rule of thirds when you’re working with a long focal wall (I use it all the time in dentistry AND design). Simply put, the rule of thirds is to break things down into thirds and for a modern look, do 2/3rds of one material and the other 1/3rd with a different material. Pro Tip: hanging or wall mounted nightstand lights really elevate the space giving a much more high-end vibe.
