M18 76mm Gun Motor Carrige WWII US Tank Destroyer ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ In preparation for the entry of the United States into the European theatre of WWII, the Army determined that they needed to develop dedicated tank destroyers to counter the German Panzer force. First of these was the M10: though powerful, it was still insufficient to deal with heavier targets like the German Panthers and Tigers. It was thus proposed to develop a new tank destroyer from the ground up. What came to fruition was the M18 Hellcat, boasting incredible speeds of up to 50 mph (80 km/h) and a 76mm high-velocity cannon. With this high maneuverability came the cost of any significant armor protection, only having up to 25mm of armor. This, as well as the open-topped turret, made crews vulnerable to enemy fire of all types. Despite this, the M18 was very well-liked by its crews since it gave them the ability to quickly maneuver to fire positions and flank heavy targets. Around 2,500 M18 hellcats were made before production ceased in 1945. Though overshadowed by the symbol of the American War Industry that was the M4 Sherman in both production numbers and cultural significance, the M18 was an excellent vehicle when used in its intended role. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ I'm not going to lie this was a hard one to make. There were a lot of moments when I was ready to post what I had despite not being so happy with it. Developmental problems included making the chassis too tall, then too short, having inaccurate front plate angling, and having a small-sized turret. Over the course of the two weeks, these issues were slowly corrected and I can finally present to you a model I am happy with. Some issues still need some ironing out before I consider it perfect, mainly the turret ring of the MG and the necessity for further sloping on the turret. Better ways to construct track fenders too will be on that list of improvements if I ever get there. As always any further feedback is appreciated! ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ #lego#ww2#legoww2#M18#hellcat#warthunder
