Exploring new lakes is hard work but probably my favorite thing in fishing. The first day most often doesn't include much fishing, mostly mapping the best parts and trying to understand the circumstances. Day two the fishing starts. This was a particularly difficult challenge. Very deep clear water lake. Rocks 360 degrees around the lake and everything else is just sand. No reefs, shorelines pretty much the same everywhere. The most obvious rocky plateus only gave small Perch. And you pretty much couldn't see Perch anywhere on the sonar, only small schools of Smelt here and there. Eventually I spotted a small 1-2m long tree branch laying on the sand. Made the cast with a Z-man TRD Hogz Black/Blue and hooked up with two good fish. The bigger one at 44cm. A satisfying feeling.
