OPEN BORDERS Currently on show: ••• Posted @withregram • @johncurtingallery Melissa Boughey lives in Kentdale, in WA’s Great Southern Region. She contributes a series of four paintings to Open Borders that employ energetic gestural marks and broad swatches of colour. In these works, Melissa channels intense feelings of grief and acceptance after witnessing the death of a close friend. “When my friend was diagnosed with terminal cancer she accessed the voluntary assisted dying program and asked me, along with three other close friends, to be present with her as she transitioned. It was peaceful and I was honoured to be present as she passed between life and death. The ultimate border.
