Why the number of grain rows in cob is always even? Corn cobs usually have an even number of grain rows because of how corn plants grow. When corn is growing, it naturally tends to form pairs of rows on the cob, which makes the total number of rows even. Or Maize undergoes a process called double fertilization, where two sperm cells fertilize two separate structures in the kernel, which eventually become the endosperm and the embryo. This process often results in pairs of rows on the cob, leading to an even number of grain rows. This is how most corn cobs develop, but sometimes, because of changes in the plant or the environment, you might find cobs with an odd number of rows, although it's not as common. #corn #maize #agronomy #agriculture
