Chase Olsen. A Man of No Excuses. Before our recent Carbine course in Eugene, OR, an individual reached out to our admin and asked if it was possible for someone with some restricted mobility to still take the course. Our instructor Billy, responded and assured them that they would absolutely be able to participate, knowing that drills can be modified to still provide value and learning opportunities. Enter Chase. After the course start, it became apparent that he had some trouble with walking and going to the prone. At no point did he complain, and he tackled every drill that we did along with everyone else. It wasn’t until we were a few hours in that we learned that Chase was paralyzed from the waist down, and had spent three years in a wheelchair. Through PT and hard work, he has been able to recover a great deal of mobility. When asked if he wanted to do an altered version of the Quadzilla drill, he declined, simply saying “I’ll do it like everyone else.” And he did. Chase came out and inspired all of us. No excuses necessary.
