ASKEW restaurant designed in 2005 by Karim. When I designed this restaurant I had only designed two other interiors. The difference of this project was that the client only had a budget of 100,000us for all including full kitchen so we bought used equipment and had to do everything with very little resources. The space and budget was a challenge, Hence I designed and used plastic laminates, butterfly chairs I designed for @magis_official and stools for the now defunct Puredesign from Canada. Plastic Laminates were common in diners in the USA and I was always impressed with how they are still in diners after 70 years. They are an Underrated material by @abetlaminati that I used to give color, pattern, and function to the surfaces. The restaurant had many skewed angles on the original space so I played them up faceted forms to shift the eye and create an artificial nature. Nature is dystrophic and so the space was designed to feel a play of nature via man-made materials and efficiently hold 80 people playing with asymmetric angles.
