One of the greatest exercise that I don’t see people utilizing enough in the gym are barbell hinge exercises. Most people that I see nowadays are doing a hinge movement like the RDL but very rarely are they doing it with a barbell. I understand there is a learning curve and it can be easier for someone to grasp the concept of a single or double DB RDL much easier but I’m here to say - that doesn’t mean stay there. The reason you need to throw these into your program is simple. Load. It’s simple math, you cannot load as much as you can and go through an entire range of motion with other options. Dumbbells are limited by weight. And hip thrust machines or bars are limited by range of motion in most cases and weight in others. Your glutes and hamstrings are LARGE muscles, they can handle large loads (pause 😂). That means you need to treat them accordingly. Your DB RDL with 50 lbs dumbbells ain’t gonna do it chief, might work initially but you’re not going to be getting as much out of it in the long run. Load the tissue up, build the weight up and push yourself (within reason, get your form down correct before proceeding). That’s how you’re going to grow that big ass, that’s how you’re going to develop that killer deadlift. Plus, it looks way f’n cooler. Don’t avoid the barbell cause it takes more effort, effort breeds greatness.
