Father's Day is always tough for me as I reflect on what life would have been like with my dad by my side. I often imagine the warmth of his hand holding mine and the reassurance he would have given me during challenging times. Sadly, my dad lost his life thirty one years ago in a tragic tribal conflict in South Sudan, just as my mother was entering her second month of pregnancy with me. This devastating event cast a dark shadow over our community, and we continue to mourn the loss of our fallen heroes. Despite never having the opportunity to meet my dad, I have grown up surrounded by stories of his kind-hearted nature and the leadership he showed everyone that came across him in his village and outside. He was driven, Energetic and overall a great father, son, friend and husband. To all those who have shared their memories and experiences with my father, I cannot express enough how impactful those stories have been for me. They have provided me with a connection to my dad, offering hope, inspiration, and a sense of identity in a world without him. Through these stories, I have found purpose and a drive to carry on his legacy. I want to acknowledge the incredible strength and resilience of my mother, Mama Yar, and my father's other wives, who raised us single-handedly. They have done an exceptional job in nurturing and guiding us, resulting in the emergence of leaders, athletes, lawyers, and parents. Your kids are making you proud and making sure your name is honoured. I know you are proud up there ❤️ On this Father's Day, I am filled with pride to be your daughter, Dad. Although you reside in heaven, your legacy lives on through all those who remember and honor your memory.
