Pollinators and ivy, sitting in a tree... 🥰 Ivy's little globe-shaped flowers start emerging in September, and while they don't look like your typical blooms, they are a vital source of pollen and nectar in autumn when not much else is in flower! 🍁 As well as feeding lots of different pollinators, ivy provides roosting sites for bats and birds 🦇​, and a winter home for hibernating insects ❄️ Its berries are also high in fat, making them a nutritious food source for birds including blackbirds and thrushes. ​ The species of ivy native to the UK (Hedera helix) isn't a parasitic plant as some might think, but gets structural support from trees, walls and fences.
