Jalan Selaseh | Seletar Hills Estate Seletar Hills Estate is a private residential estate that can be spotted in maps as early as the mid 1960s. The site used to be a part of the Singapore United Plantation and a rubber factory belonging to the "Trafalgar Estate" in the 1910s. Yio Chu Kang Road runs along the border of the estate to its northeast, and the documentation of this road goes back to the early 20th century as well. The illustration depicts Jalan Selaseh with the Seletar Corner coffeeshop that has changed a bit over the years, you can also spot Chuan Huat Guan Dry Market on the left, this provision shop has business registration dating back to the 1980s. Also rather well known is Seletar Hill Restaurant which is known for serving American Chinese food since the 1990s. Jalan Selaseh is named after basil (selasih). Across Yio Chu Kang, on the opposite side of the estate, near Sungei Punggol was the former Kampong Tongkang Pechah (around present-day Fernvale Station), where Seletar Farmway East used to be, one article mentioned carpentries and pig farms as well as early flats could be found there before the redevelopment. The Seletar Hills Market and Food Centre used to be at where Greenwich Village is located today. I stayed near the estate at Jalan Kechulbong across the road when I was really young.
