Change lives” • Famous for breathtaking landscapes, the clear blue skies, the highest mountain passes in the world, the terrain in Ladakh could be mercilessly inhospitable at times. Located at the foot of the Himalayas, Ladakh offers breathtaking views from a variety of picturesque locations, Buddhist Monasteries, and pristine environment. Due to the high and particularly testing terrain, the people of Ladakh are naturally tough, but extremely cheerful. Many of them still lead a nomadic life, while agriculture is still prominent in Ladakh. However, many families do have the first child or atleast one person serving in the armed forces. Driven by great will and passion, winning instinct come natural for the Ladakies, whether it is a soldier in uniform or a sportsperson in the national jersey. As a part of one of our CSR Initiative, Adidas India’s aim is the development of active sports like football in the mountain region of Himalayas in Changthang, which is eastern part of Ladakh. There is also a larger percentage of girls playing football in this region as well. We are working with many schools from different villages in this region – Liktsey, Himya, Skidmang, Kesar, Nidder, Hanle, Nyoma, Muth, Kharu, Puga, Tsaga. I had the privilege of visiting these schools and spend time with the children from few of these schools, on a recent visit to Ladakh. The people here are simple, but courageous. They love their country, and they love sports, particularly football. They are not blessed with green pastures or soft sand, but with rocky and rough terrains, which makes it extremely challenging to run or play on the surface. The altitude goes from 11000 ft above see level to as high as 19000 ft, where most people can’t even breath. But their grit & determination is far superior to suffer from such barriers.
