So i finally (!) listed this dress on ebay today. You can find it by searching "happy bug day" and Warhol and dress. the auction ends next monday, september 11th. (has a $500 reserve). it's a midweight "sailtone" cotton and the dress is a large size, maybe even an XL. (42" bust 52" hip) This dress in particular is homemade, from a 1960s pattern. and... I found this exact fabric in a 1956 Sears catalog! I love the convergence that is, early on, pop artist Andy Warhol being sold in that most mainstream of American institutions YEARS before he became a household name. That women and children wore Warhol fabrics in the 1950s is astonishing + great. the fabric design was reworked from a watercolor/ink drawing and sold to a fabric house by warhol in the 1950s.
