Going through old pictures as we prepare for a move, and came across this guy! I actually remember this pretty well. It was in our apartment in Oakville - first or 2nd year Illustration (circa 1999/2000) at @sheridan_college and I was sick as a dog late night working, so I shoved Kleenex up my nose to prevent snot from dripping all over my assignment. These were formative years for me, as my son Sam was born the summer in between my prep year in Art Fundamentals (Art Fundies 😜) & my first year of the illustration program, which was & still is one of the best in the country, with the bar set very high from the get go. I worked a few jobs, went to school & was a VERY young Dad. I remember sneaking past the the office in our building because I was always behind in rent 😬 It was a super challenging time, and I’ve been through a few of those since, but you have no idea what you’re capable of until you’re tested, and tested some more. I firmly believe everyone should experience a good beat down from life now and again. You learn, you mature, & you gain this profound perspective & resiliency. Plus nothing will humble you like life saying “you thought you had this? Think again” Moral of the story: Don’t let snot drip on your art assignments + work harder then you thought possible.
