. At times, Grand Canyon sunsets are indeed grand! Lucky park visitors sometimes experience beams and rays of light originating from the setting sun in the west. These streaks of light are sometimes called Sunbeam Rays or God Rays. Scientists call them crepuscular rays. Last night's sunset, as viewed from the North Rim's Point Imperial, was especially rare, unusual and spectacular. Sun rays and beams appeared to be emulating from the EAST, completely opposite the usual sightings, located in the west where the sun sets! These rare eastern sunbeams, also known as anticrepuscular or antisolar rays, filled the sky looking east from Point Imperial. The sun beams/rays appear to dive towards a single point on the eastern horizon. In reality, scientists explain that the beams and rays are actually running parallel to each while appearing to converge in the east as an optical illusion! —Ranger Doug What's the best sunset you have experienced at Grand Canyon National Park?
